Human Factors Role in Medical Simulation and The Need for Further Collaborative Research
DescriptionTitle: Human Factors Role in Medical Simulation and The Need for Further Collaborative Research

Summary
-Topic: Various human factor and medical simulation experts will discuss how they have used simulation and human factors to solve difficult problems in creative and meaningful ways
-Application: Simulation is a dynamic educational method providing an excellent platform to execute innovative research, re-creating real world situations in a controlled and safe environment that perfectly facilitates the utilization of Human Factors science leading to improved performance and patient safety.
-Background: Medical simulation is needed to recreate real-world experiences in a safe and well controlled environment so that both learners and research participants can be evaluated in a valid and reliable way. Human Factors sciences capitalizes on how end users and products/systems interact and the blending of these methods opens the medical field to improved productivity and outcomes.
-Overview: Medical simulation experts, clinicians, and Human Factors experts will discuss studies using both medical simulation and Human Factors methods identified as exemplars in the field. Additionally, the panel will discuss several examples of their recently completed simulation-based research with their Human Factors colleagues at their own institutions. Finally, the panel will discuss several important gaps in the literature (simulation and Human Factors research) and discuss possible methodological approaches to achieve these innovative and important future works to move the field forward.
