Biography
Ashley M. Hughes, Ph.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Research Health Scientist at the Center for Innovations in Chronic, Complex Healthcare (CINCCH) at the Edward Hines JR VA Hospital. Her research applies Human Factors principles to understand and improve complex health systems through enhanced teamwork. Her work in simulation uses simulation as a platform for conducting training and testing interventions which enhance collaboration at point-of-care. Her work in the area has been federally sponsored (e.g., NIH, VA Health Services Research & Development, AHRQ), widely published, and recognized for impact and rigor (e.g., Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology). Of note, she recently was awarded the Academic track Robert L. Wears Early Career Award by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Healthcare Technical Group and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal for Human Factors in Healthcare and Frontiers in Health Services Research.
