Biography
Michael Cassara, D.O. MSEd is Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Science Education at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He is also Associate Dean for Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Associate Professor at the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. At Northwell Health, he is Vice President for IPE and Medical Director at the Center for Learning and Innovation, the organization’s corporate university and hub for healthcare simulation. Dr. Cassara also serves as Medical Director for the Center for Learning and Innovation’s Emergency Medical Institute where prehospital emergency care education for Northwell Health. He is the Founding Director and current Director of Simulation Research and Scholarship for the Healthcare Simulation Fellowship sponsored by Northwell Health’s Emergency Medicine Service Line. Dr. Cassara is locally and nationally recognized as a master health professions educator and curricular architect with subspecialty expertise in teaching (across professions/specialties/levels of experience), educational scholarship, education theory, and healthcare simulation. He has been invited as faculty at the Harvard Macy Institute, SAEM, and INSPIRE. In recognition of his service, he has received several national, regional, and institutional awards for teaching and editorial expertise, including the SAEM Simulation Academy Distinguished Educator Award, CORD-EM Distinguished Educator Award, Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator credential, and multiple Top Reviewer awards.
