Biography
Dr. Sanford is a Human Factors Engineer with over 30 years of experience in providing scientific and technical support to clients in both government and private sectors. Over the last twelve years her primary focus has been in the area of Human Factors and Usability Engineering Testing for medical devices and other commercial products. She is a member of Battelle’s Human Centric Design (HCD) team who contributes to human factors usability assessments for medical devices, from early contextual research through formative and summative studies supporting regulatory filings to FDA. Dr. Sanford participates in all stages of the assessment process, from early client collaboration in study planning, protocol development, coordinating of recruiting, IRB submission and approval, risk analysis, study planning and execution, report writing and results presentation, through supporting documentation for FDA submissions. During her career, Dr. Sanford has collaborated in various fields and has applied her expertise in evaluating the interplay between humans and the built world in the diverse areas of human health exposure and risk assessment, environmental monitoring, pollution prevention, toxicology, epidemiology, quality assurance and quality control, lead-based paint exposure assessment, program evaluation and regulatory support, transportation safety and cost-benefit analyses, market and user evaluations, and human factors assessments.
