The power of digital and promotional instructional resources: an industry & consultancy perspective
DescriptionIn a world where technological literacy is on the rise, there lies immense potential to revolutionize patient drug delivery support through digital and web-based tools. This proposal focuses on offering key advice for developing digital instructional materials, drawing on AstraZeneca’s and Team Consulting’s firsthand experience in applying user-centric design to improve the patient experience and outcomes with home use products. The discussion will cover three fundamental topics related to these types of solutions: the power of digital and promotional resources, navigating the regulatory landscape and effective tools for optimised design development.

The presentation will start by highlighting the opportunity space for digital instructional materials, offering an industry perspective on current use and future potential for supporting patients. The talk will detail how human factors practitioners can collaborate on digital promotional instructional content, and the impact that effective usability design can have to ensure the best possible experience with product use.

The second section will focus on the theoretical understanding of how to tackle key regulatory hurdles relating to digital instructional material, including differing expectations between EU and US health authorities, and how to effectively leverage on-market complaints data.

The final section will cover practical case studies carefully selected by AstraZeneca and Team Consulting to demonstrate approaches that can be used to optimise development. Effective tools and user-centric approaches for optimised development will be shared, including one illustrating how to incorporate behavioural science into digital solutions and a second example on how instructional materials can be simplified to reduce cognitive load and improve the user experience of instructions.
