Michael Sawyer
Biography
Michael Sawyer serves as a human factors engineer and founding partner at Fort Hill Group in
Washington, DC. Dr. Sawyer supports a variety of projects for the Federal Aviation
Administration focused on improving human performance and safety in both current operations
and the NextGen environment. Dr. Sawyer has previously worked to quantify and measure
human error in a variety of domains including mining, transportation, and aviation. Prior to co-
founding Fort Hill Group, Dr. Sawyer served as an Associate Technical Fellow for Human Systems
Integration at TASC Inc. Dr. Sawyer holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Clemson
University where his dissertation focused on novel methods of assessing the impact of training
on weather-based decision making among general aviation pilots.
