Alissa L. Russ-Jara
Biography
Alissa L. Russ-Jara, PhD is a human factors engineering expert with the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Purdue University. Her expertise includes health informatics, usability, cognitive task analysis, and computerized clinical decision support, with a focus on advancing medication safety. For over 13 years, Dr. Russ-Jara has conducted federally-funded research on a variety of clinical decision support topics, including alert interface design (e.g., drug-allergy, drug-drug interactions, and renal-drug alerts), assessing prescribers’ information processing of medication alerts, and examining clinicians’ real-world decision-making process during medication safety incidents. Dr. Russ-Jara has delivered over 30 invited presentations and has published in top journals in informatics, medicine, and patient safety, including the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, The American Journal of Medicine, and BMJ Quality & Safety, respectively. Her research on medication alerts has received accolades from the International Medical Informatics Association. Dr. Russ-Jara’s career is devoted to improving health systems to support clinicians’ work and to enhance medication safety for patients.
